Being bold in branding is a brave move, but it's one that can pay off.
Taking your messaging outside the mainstream approach is a sure way of capturing the attention of customers, and your choice of color is a big driver of that.
More of the world's top 100 companies opt for blue over any other color, but a subtle twist on the traditional would see a shift across to purple.
There are already many brands embracing purple as a creative choice, and that has given them a competitive edge. Some only use it as an accent color, while others use it as their identifying color.
The psychology of the color purple
Although closely associated with the dependable, strong blue, purple brings a more creative element to the pallet, indicating imagination and wisdom.
It has a bright color saturation and lightness, ranging from violent to pink hues. It has featured in various forms as Pantone's colour of the year since 2000, and is noticeable in the rose quartz and serenity blend for 2016.
The color authority also featured Radiant Orchid in 2014, describing it as a shade that "blooms with confidence and magical warmth".
Purple appears in cultures around the world to indicate honor, leadership, and faith, and has been used as a royal color since ancient times.
Where is purple used?
Big brands adopt purple due to its universal associations to power, luxury and boldness. It is prominent in areas such as fashion, interior design, and jewellery, as well as in industries such as marketing and creative agencies.
The color also doesn't have to work in isolation, with greens and yellows working perfectly to complement it.
It's not always popular choice when answering a design brief, but it can be distinctive and therefore instantly recognizable.
