A great movie poster can be a powerful piece of artwork, but if it does not strike the perfect balance between information and intrigue, it can turn off potential viewers.
As some films ascend into public consciousness as all-time favorites, their posters and covers also often evolve into classic examples of design. But as design styles evolve, tastes change, and technology improves, it can be a great idea to shake things up a little and see what other potential is hidden in these gems.
We've previously asked our designers to re-imagine famous book and album covers, so we thought we'd have a look around the web to find the top re-imagined iconic movie posters.
It's not an overstatement to say the designs we received blew us away. The posters below have taken a range of classic movies, many of which had their original release dates decades ago, and brought them right into the middle of cutting edge design trends.
Our designers cut right to the heart of many of the stories depicted and went for minimal flat designs, using bold choices in color and shapes to communicate raw emotion. Scenes or main characters are often depicted by nothing but silhouettes, creating visual intrigue and flawless design.
The designers took into account the path a viewer's eye would make across a poster and arranged their elements to naturally lead to the poster's most important parts. Many used color or shapes to create metaphors in relation to the subject matter of their films, subtly hinting at likely villains, mind bending experiences or fragmented storytelling.
Have a look for yourselves and tell us in the comments which designs were your favorites – because we're having a really hard time deciding!
