Free logo design is tempting for businesses on a shoestring budget - but they can be a big mistake.  Free logos are often cliche, cheap and impossible to trademark.  Here are 5 free logos that are popular with businesses (and that use concepts most designers have toyed with at some point) but should be avoided if possible:

(Note: all of the logos were taken generated for this article by one of the top free logo design websites on the Internet.)

Free Logo Design Mistake #1 - The 'Globe'
Free global logos

Free Logo Design Mistake #2 - The Palm Tree

Free Palm Tree logos

Free Logo Design Mistake #3 - Legal Scales

Free legal scale logos

Free Logo Design Mistake #4 - Mountains
Free mountain logos

Free Logo Design Mistake #5 - The Silhouette
Free person logos

Most of these logos feel like they've come from Microsoft Word's clip-art library.  The concepts are hackneyed and the execution varies from mediocre to poor - they are cheap and amateur.  These 5 examples of free logos are 5 reasons free logos should be avoided and 5 concepts that have been over-used and, unfortunately, basically 'corrupted'.  Logo designers should try and steer clear of these concepts and business owners should steer clear of free logo services.
